From Flax to Frock: Textile History of the Western Reserve by Lisa Pettry

The history of textiles, from imported goods, domestic production, and the impact of the American Revolution on the colonies, is as complex as the people whose hands clothed the new Americans and their homes. Beginning in late 18th century Connecticut and continuing through the early decades of the 19th century in Ohio's Western Reserve, unravel the clues left by cloth and clothing makers of long ago.
Lisa Pettry began her fiber journey as a young teen during America's bicentennial celebration, demonstrating spinning for fairs and festivals while soaking up every drop of early American lifeways from other artisans. In the elementary classroom, for community groups, and in private classes, Lisa has made a life-long commitment to sharing immersive experiences in historical context. Lisa has worked as a Museum Educator, Crafts & Trades Coordinator, Education & Public Program Manager, and Curriculum, Interpretation, & Textile Specialist at Hale Farm & Village.
